HELLO DIY COMMUNITY!

We have come a long way in 2 years from the time we just made Enclosures, DIYProjectorkits.com was started as an answer to the needs of people who wanted to make their own DIY Projector but didn't have the time, tools, or place to do it themselves. I have always liked building models and thats how I design these Projector Kits. Here we have everything you need in one place to do a DIY Projector, all the parts work with each other and you dont have to go looking for parts and hope they fit and work.

Along the way we have come up with many improvements, more Projector Parts, Plasma Light Engine, just to mention a few things.

We have Lots of things planned for 2010 for the site, New sections, New info, New Focal Calc, Yes I said FocalCalc and not just the run of the mill ones like everywhere else, this one is designed for DIYProjectorKits.com, we will be adding Plans, Assembly Guides, Screen test patterns, and much much more to come, we want to take this to the Next Level and provide some unique Projectors not on the scene yet and this takes the support of the DIY Community which is why we REALLY NEED your support. The last thing we want is to have to close shop or clog your pages with silly ADs.

Membership is $20.00 for 2 years and allows access to the Premium areas of the site, 10% off in the store, and other Site activities, registration is still free but gives you limited access.

As always I am interested in your thoughts, Ideas, Comments. Please let us know how you feel.

Thank You For Your Continued Support and we look forward to hearing from you!

Bruce
aka TESCORP

Thank you everyone for the support, this was a hard decision but it has been very hard to keep up with the world around us and this is only for the better, not to just be like everyone else.

I have been awaiting the opportunity to voice my opinion concerning suggestions, I feel this might be it. I do enjoy evolution and technological advancement, I feel that plasma bulbs do not have an economical place in DIY projectors. The logic or reason is simple. It seems a fact that has been over looked by some. Probe start metal halide bulbs have fairly unimpressive stats, this may be even more true when comparing to plasma. However, probe metal halide bulbs are 'old technology' in that area of bulbs. Pulse start bulbs are significantly better in every degree including the life of the bulb.
To really call this a one stop DIY projector shop I -highly- recommend finding (this can be done with ease, I can do it for you) distributors for buying a reasonable quantity of stock to have a variety of options in lighting. I am not just speaking about probe, pulse and plasma bulbs. I am also speaking of a number of ballasts, and wattage. Some people may argue that a 575-600 watt bulb would be better suited for their setup.
It is also a standard on ordering online to be able to look at the status of your order. Rather than having to ask a question on a forum to discover the status of their order, the individual needs a way to check the status automatically. I am certain this sounds like a troubling task as your system likely doesn't work this way. But it gives many who order anything online a great deal of peace of mind to be able to see a status of where their order is or at what phase it is until shipping.

i must say, i agree with you. more options then the 400w metal halide bulb we have would be great, especially different ballasts and higher wattage bulbs. As for the status of the orders, it's not a bad idea, however implementing it and keeping it updated it a whole other game...

This is exactly what I want to know. Yes we do plan to add more lighting options including the Plasma Light Engine.
As far as the order status that is something we need to add and I am sure we can do something to better trace the order status.

Thank you for your feedback!

To be honest, at first I was pretty hesistant to join this site when I was first planning to build my projection unit, and not because of "premium membership" fees. However, after joining, I felt pretty welcome and liked the fact that the majority of members I've encountered have been friendly and helpful (and mature), which is something that some other forums tend to lack on. I'd be more than happy to pay the membership fee and be able to continue being a part of all the stuff that this site offers.

I really like that you guys have lots of stuff in the store, although I'd like to see more variety. I was originally going to buy my supplies from different sources until I found out that everything I needed was already here!

I do agree with the order tracking system, it would be a nice addition. My first order was taking weeks to arrive and I didn't know what was going on, but I'm happy to say that after one email, you guys promptly responded, thank you for that!

Keep up the good work!

Just for clarification... this "20$" 2 year membership that your talking about, is this the same "Premium Membership" that was on sale this past couple of weeks??? I'm a little confused as to whether or not these are the same... Also, once we have our "Premium Membership" what signs will there be letting us know that we have full access to DIY Projector Kits??? Sorry for all the questions, I"m a nubie here (convert from LL) and am still getting used to this site... Thanks...

Edit: I'm curious about the "signs" because I did buy the Premium Membership when it was offered at 50% off... It still looks like I'm just a regular member though... Or, am I just confused????

As far as the premium membership goes, I think the "free section" needs to include enough of the website for those of us who aren't sure about things yet. Like if most of this website were a pay to view website I would never have started my project(atleast here) nor would I have joined. Like at this point I'm still a little hesitant to buy the membership. Like no offense to you or to this forum but I just want to make sure its something I'll need or once I make my projector when I feel like it's a good decision to "donate." Those are just some of my view points.
Oh and a order updater would be great! I know I was VERY hesitant to buy from the first time(internet scams etc.haha) and not knowing a order status didn't help any either. On top of that, its nice to know when something is coming or knowing possibly how much you have done(for those with projectors you are building).

Lots of good points......Remember this site is only 2 years old and has not shed its diapers yet!!!
TESCORP should look into many concerns everyone has.....but this is a DIY site that also offers complete kits that I think are second to none....I have two.

For a site like this the community has to come together and buy the membership and stick around to help.....like most have been doing to date. This will give TESCORP the needed capital to stock up on items and grow.
Good luck in the new year DIYprojectorkits!!!

This is the same membership and yes there will be sales on the memberships like this that we will run periodically.

The biggest thing we need though is this, your input to realize how this feels like a benefit to you the community.

We try really hard to have good customer service, we have had some bumps in time but are trying to put oil on all these areas and make them better for all.

Good points, we will have enough "free" areas to give you the incentive to start your project and give you a reason to support this community by purchasing a membership! What we need to know is what you want from this site to keep you coming back.

oh and one more thing about the forum itself. It would be awesome if you had a better "new posts" link. I've seen on most other forums like this that have one are updated when you click on one of the unread topics. So every time you visit you can see the actual new posts that you have not seen before.
EDIT:and on the same note. It would make things so much easier to follow if you had an option to view the forum like 90% of other forums with the newest thread at the end. I was so confused the first time when I saw this place.haha. Now I'm used it though. just another idea from a newbie.

Default Re: A New Begining - Please Read

My thoughts,

In the free membership area there needs to be enough help and support and info for the members to be able to be successful in making a diypj. Once they research supplies they will be back to the store. I think if the optic kits or the lighting kits included the price of the membership or if you had the same kits that also included the membership added to the price,

Once members are bitten by the bug of helping newer members they are more likely to pay for membership extensions over the years to come. Kinda like a oldtimer badge for being around

I know for me the biggest pain is having to scroll so far down to get to the new post on your front page. A simple button link to get to new post would be nice.

The site has come along ways, DIYPJkits is becoming the main stay for PJ building and will become an established part of the genre for years to come. I for one don't mind the paid membership

Default Re: A New Begining - Please Read

Just wanted to start by saying that this site has been an awesome introduction to DIYProjectors and I am very excited to get my build started.

As far as suggestions goes:
- Bandwidth is extremely expensive in large quantities which I am sure is a large part of the capital costs of running this community. The Live video, although interesting, increases the opperating costs significantly. Do many people sit there and watch the build? If they do then it is a good use of resources. However, the video continues to stream all night- is there a way to have it only run during the day to drastically save on bandwidth?

-also, i think it would be very beneficial to have a more formal section of the site. As was mentioned already, the entire site is forum based which makes it extremely easy for you. But makes it a lot more difficult to navigate in some ways. I think that the website needs to be reorganized, and sections should be added that are not forum based as a traditional site has. These pages could contain introduction documentation, and general build steps, etc.

These are just a few ideas, and I would like to reiterate that i think DIYProjector kits is already an amazing resource. I just think small changes could make a huge difference to the cost and profitability of the site.

Many seem to agree on trying to make the site easier to navigate for new users but many seem to get the handle rather quickly.

On the other note unconverted if the site retains the live video it has to run all day as this site has become global and many people are "awake" while others are asleep. I do think many like to watch some of the builds.......especially when its theirs!! lol
I personally like the idea of seeing the "latest and greatest" builds from time to time.
I also agree with you that this site is an amazing resource and I would not now have two projectors that truly impress the crowds.
